Centralized Elation: KNICKS NBA CHAMPIONS!
Everyone said NO.
Not this year.
Not this time.
Not this team.
We were all wrong. But never before has being so wrong felt so right.
Likely every New York Knick fan knows the exact moment when they really, truly started to believe that this could be our year—that Championship feeling.
No matter what they tell you, no matter what you've heard, the believer class remained very thin even after the Knicks defeated the No. 6 seed Atlanta Hawks after falling behind 2-1 early in the series and then rallying to win three straight games, closing it out with a 51-point blowout in Game 6.
That small group blossomed, but hadn't yet exploded, when the Knicks—happily, gladly, gleefully—swept the hated No. 7 seed Philadelphia 76ers (4-0), dominating from start to finish, winning Game 1 by 39 points and wrapping up the sweep with a 30-point victory in Game 4.
Then things changed. When the Knicks faced off against the No. 4 seed Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals, the maybe-believer class grew and then grew more and then exploded as the Knicks completely overwhelmed the Cavaliers to secure their first trip to the NBA Finals since 19freaking99.
Then came the Finals. The Knicks would have to deal with the San Antonio Spurs, a young but very dangerous, very talented, and very determined team (no, I won't be mentioning him by name because as we now all know, he doesn't deserve mention). The Knicks dismantling of the East en route to these Finals in no way, shape, or form meant that the Spurs would be a cakewalk. I don't care what they tell you, no one believed that.
But by now the Knicks historic run in these 2026 NBA playoffs had made them the darlings not only of NBA fans and American sports fans, at large, but of fans and non-fans the world over. A kinda, kinda-not Cinderella story, and everyone, and I mean everyone, was taking notice.
I don't need to rehash what went down in the series. We all saw it. By the time news of the Knicks historic 29-point comeback in game 4 ripped around the world, the NBA Finals, featuring our hometown New York Knicks, had become a global witnessing. The key events were unmissable. The blown calls, the tall child on the other team, the comebacks, the heroics, and the greatest OG tip-in in basketball history (pardon the pun but how could I not?).
We all saw it.
We will never forget it.
